Course Overview
The RQF L3 / EQF L4 Personal Training course is a comprehensive and intensive program designed to provide students with the expertise to assess client training needs and implement effective strategies to help achieve fitness goals. This course combines both Fitness Instructor and Personal Training qualifications, with no entry requirements needed.
As a professional-level qualification, the Personal Training course equips students with the knowledge, skills, and technical expertise necessary for a career as a Personal Trainer, whether in an employed or self-employed capacity. It is suitable for individuals aged 18 and older, including recent school leavers and those returning to education after a break.
Aligned with national occupational standards for fitness, this course incorporates key skills and knowledge from personal training, sport rehabilitation, performance training, and long-term client care. Upon successful completion, this accredited qualification ensures students are eligible for competitively priced insurance, allowing them to practice professionally.

Units & Structure
The qualification consists of SIX mandatory units.
- Functional Anatomy for Training & Performance
- Principles and Fundamentals of Personal Training
- Nutrition for Performance, Health & Fitness
- Programming & Delivering Personal Training
- Fitness in Business
- Reflective Case Study
Each of these six units has been formed into individual assessment booklets which you will complete and submit at the end of the course.

Course Plan, Delivery & Assessment
The course is designed to support learning through hands-on practical sessions and the completion of ongoing assessment booklets. With a commitment of eight hours per week for both practical and theoretical study, students can complete the course in just ten weeks.
All course materials are included, with additional resources and website links provided for those looking to expand their knowledge and deepen their understanding. Upon completing the six assessment booklets and recording a session where you teach a client, you will submit these for review and approval.

On completion of the course the student will:
- Understand the legal and professional considerations involved in personal training.
- Learn how to build your career as a self-employed personal trainer, manage your personal training business, and implement effective marketing strategies.
- Gain a solid understanding of functional anatomy and how to apply it in personal training.
- Master the skills to structure, plan, and deliver exercise sessions for both one-on-one and group training.
- Design tailored programs to address a variety of client needs in dynamic environments.
- Learn how to create and structure sessions and programs specifically to meet individual client goals and requirements.
- Acquire a comprehensive knowledge of nutrition, with a focus on its application to exercise, elite performance, and overall health.
- Understand how lifestyle choices and medical conditions can impact a client's health and well-being.
- Develop effective communication skills to conduct consultations and inspire clients to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
- Upon completion, students will earn a fully recognized RQF L3 / EQF L4 qualification.
